Nadal's protégé returns to the world's top 10

The victory in Stockholm, Sweden, signaled Casper Ruud's comeback into the ATP Tour top 10 rankings.

Norwegian player Casper Ruud claimed his second title of the 2025 season by defeating Ugo Humbert 6-2, 6-3 to win the ATP 250 Stockholm Open. The tournament featured many top players, with all four top seeds reaching the semifinals, but Ruud demonstrated the consistency needed to secure the valuable trophy.

With this championship, Ruud now has 3,145 points and has climbed two places to reach world No. 9. The player, who trained at Rafael Nadal's academy, is gradually regaining his steady form after a challenging period throughout this season.

At the same time in Brussels, Felix Auger-Aliassime also won the title after a thrilling three-set final (7-6, 6-7, 6-2) against Jiri Lehecka. The player, who once trained under Rafael Nadal’s uncle Toni Nadal, showed impressive form all week, especially with his strong serve.

This achievement brought Auger-Aliassime back into the top 10, placing him right behind Ruud at No. 10 with the same total of 3,145 points. This week's ATP rankings therefore feature two new names returning to the elite group, while the rest of the top 10 remains unchanged.

Despite reaching the semifinals in Stockholm, Holger Rune dropped to world No. 12 after losing 190 points. More concerning is his severe Achilles tendon injury, which could sideline the Danish player for up to a year. Meanwhile, Jack Draper remains absent due to a wrist injury sustained at Wimbledon, causing him to fall out of the top 10.

In contrast, Daniil Medvedev is showing signs of revival. The Russian player recently won the 2025 Almaty Open by defeating Corentin Moutet, moving up to No. 13. Ugo Humbert, despite losing to Ruud in the final, improved to No. 23, while Moutet rose to No. 34 in the world rankings.

Young French players Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and Arthur Fils both dropped in rankings, falling to No. 55 and No. 35 respectively, after failing to defend their points from last season.
