On October 23rd, 2025, the WTA500 Tokyo event proceeded with the women's singles second round. Second seed Rybakina secured a 6-4, 6-3 win over Fernandez, achieving her 50th WTA main-draw victory this year and halting Fernandez's six consecutive singles wins in Japan.

Rybakina
In their previous three encounters, Fernandez led with two wins to Rybakina's one, including a victory in the WTA500 Washington semifinals this year. In this match, Rybakina played steadily across both sets, breaking serve once more in each set to claim a straight-sets revenge. With this win, Rybakina is just one victory away from qualifying for this year's Riyadh WTA Finals; if she defeats Canadian rising star Mboko in the quarterfinals, her live ranking points will surpass Andreyeva’s, moving her up to No. 8.
In other matches, fifth seed Bencic eliminated qualifier Gracheva 6-4, 6-3, while third seed Alexandrova cruised past Krystian 6-1, 6-2, both advancing smoothly to the quarterfinals. Last year's runner-up and tenth seed Kenin battled local wildcard Hachisuka in a tough three-set match, eventually winning 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(2).
