Jannik Sinner led the ATP Tour in 2025 for both service game and return game win rates. Despite not ending the season ranked No. 1 in the PIF ATP rankings, he still secured a significant milestone in an otherwise triumphant year.
In 2025, at age 24, Sinner became the first player in ATP history (since data tracking began in 1991) to simultaneously lead the tour in service game win percentage and return game win percentage within a single season. His dominance in these two categories helped him claim six titles, including successfully defending the Nitto ATP Finals crown on home soil in Turin.

According to ATP statistics, Sinner competed in 64 matches during the 2025 season, winning 713 of 775 service games, achieving an impressive service hold rate of 92%, demonstrating remarkable consistency.
2025 Service Game Win Percentage Rankings

Sinner’s winning percentage exceeded that of his closest rival Taylor Fritz by nearly 3 percentage points, while no other player surpassed an 89.18% service hold rate. The world No. 2 outperformed renowned servers such as Fritz, Giovanni Mpecci Perical, Reilly Opelka, and even Novak Djokovic, highlighting significant improvements in his serving skills and the central role serving plays in his rise.
“After the US Open, we made many adjustments to the serving aspect,” said one of Sinner’s coaches, Simone Vagnozzi, following the Nitto ATP Finals. “We are fortunate to have a player like Jannik who improves rapidly and quickly adapts to these changes… Without a doubt, our goal for next season is to be even more aggressive than now.”
A solid serving foundation directly boosted Sinner’s return game performance. In 2025, he won 247 of 757 return games, achieving a return game win rate of 32.63%.
2025 Return Game Win Percentage Rankings

Sinner’s return win rate was 0.75 percentage points higher than his chief rival Carlos Alcaraz. The two shared four Grand Slam titles in 2025 and faced each other in the Nitto ATP Finals final, where Sinner applied immense pressure on Alcaraz’s serve with his efficient returns.

“Return game is crucial. Without placing the ball in effective areas, breaking serve is very difficult,” said Sinner’s other coach, Darren Cahill, after the Nitto ATP Finals. “Even after being broken in the second set, Jannik continued to pressure Carlos’s service games.”
The gap between Sinner and other top players reflects his consistency in applying pressure during return games — notably, in 2024 when he earned the year-end No. 1 ranking, his return game win rate was only 28.3%.
In just one year, Sinner’s return game win rate jumped from 28.30% to 32.63%, marking a significant breakthrough. Combined with an increasingly reliable and powerful serve, Sinner now possesses one of the most well-rounded statistical profiles in modern tennis history, laying a solid foundation to be a formidable contender in the 2026 season.
