Kasatkina has officially become an Australian citizen!

Kasatkina recently shared on her social media that she has officially obtained Australian citizenship. When sharing this update, she expressed her emotions as "joyful, thankful, and liberated." The general consensus is that her departure from Russia was primarily because of matters concerning her sexual orientation and freedom of speech.

Kasatkina formally applied for permanent residency in Australia in March 2025, and on January 17, 2026, she officially became an Australian citizen.

Born on May 7, 1997, in Tolyatti, Russia, Kasatkina began playing tennis at age six and demonstrated excellent competitive skills during her youth. In 2014, she won the girls' singles title at the French Open junior tournament.

In 2016, Kasatkina showcased remarkable talent on the professional circuit, reaching the third round in singles at the Australian Open, French Open, and US Open that season. Her strong performances in major tournaments propelled her world ranking into the top 50 for the first time that year.

During the 2017 season, Kasatkina claimed her first WTA singles title in Charleston. She then reached finals in Dubai and Indian Wells in 2018 and advanced to the quarterfinals in singles at both the French Open and Wimbledon, steadily rising to a top-ten world ranking.

Although Kasatkina has not made major breakthroughs in recent seasons, she has maintained relatively consistent performance. In the 2024 season, she reached six WTA singles finals consecutively, winning titles at the Eastbourne and Ningbo 500 events.

As a technically skilled player, Kasatkina has secured 8 WTA singles titles and finished runner-up 11 times. However, she did not reach any finals during the completed 2025 season.

For Kasatkina, born in 1997, approaching 30 years old means she is no longer very young, but as long as she manages injuries well, she still has the potential to achieve strong results.

It is worth noting that Kasatkina is not the only Russian-born player to change nationality recently. The well-known Potapova has switched to Austria, the Uzbekistan Tennis Federation announced that Rashimova has officially joined their country, and others like Avanesyan moved to Armenia and Gracheva to France. Russian tennis has lost several talented players.

Of course, the decision to change nationality depends entirely on the players themselves. What do you think—can Kasatkina, now an Australian, achieve new career milestones?(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Barbie)
