The 40-year-old Swiss legend Stan Wawrinka, during his farewell season, won his opening match at the Rotterdam Open by defeating 17-year-old Dutch lucky loser Tess Bogaard 6-4, 6-3, marking another unforgettable milestone in his career.

Wawrinka previously lifted the ATP 500 trophy here in 2015. The age difference between the two players in this match was 23 years and 3 months, ranking as the second-largest age gap in ATP Tour and Grand Slam history, only behind the 25 years and 11 months gap when Tim (18) defeated Muster (44) in 2011.

At this year's Australian Open, Wawrinka became the oldest player to reach the third round in men’s singles since Rosewall.

Aliassime(2nd seed) defeated Poplin 7-5, 6-3, securing his first career win against this opponent and improving their head-to-head to 1-2. Aliassime won the Montpellier title last week.

Bublyk narrowly overcame Hurkacz 6-7(2), 7-6(1), 7-5; Hurkacz celebrated his 29th birthday that day. Bublyk showed great patience in this match.

Tsitsipas defeated 8th seed Lindgren 7-5, 6-3, extending his perfect 6-0 record in first rounds at Rotterdam ATP 500. He will face Dutch player Van der Schuup next.

Kachanov eliminated local player De Jong 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Australian qualifierO’Connell beat 6th seed Norrie 7-6(9), 6-4, becoming the first player to reach the quarterfinals at this year’s Rotterdam event.
