Roger Federer's allure continues to be tremendously powerful even though the "Swiss Maestro" retired more than three years ago.
The International Tennis Hall of Fame announced that tickets for the legendary Roger Federer's induction ceremony sold out in only 2 minutes, despite organizers adding thousands of extra seats to meet the overwhelming demand from fans.
The event is scheduled for August 29 in Newport, USA, regarded as the "cathedral" of world tennis. Federer — the first male player in history to win 20 Grand Slam singles titles — will be officially inducted into the hall of legends, alongside the renowned commentator Mary Carillo.
Initially, only 900 tickets were released for the main auditorium of the ceremony. However, due to a surge in interest, organizers decided to open an additional 3,600-seat stadium on the grounds for an outdoor live viewing. Nevertheless, a total of 4,500 tickets were sold out within just 2 minutes, according to museum spokesperson Megan Erbes.
The intense excitement around the event once again highlights Federer's far-reaching influence, who not only captivated fans with 20 Grand Slam titles but also with his elegant playing style and exemplary image throughout more than two decades at the top. The "Swiss Maestro" retired in 2022, concluding one of the most illustrious careers in sports history.
The International Tennis Hall of Fame, located in Newport, USA, has recently completed a $3 million renovation project to upgrade facilities for upcoming induction ceremonies. After Federer, Serena Williams — holder of 23 Grand Slam singles titles — is expected to qualify for induction next year, unless "Little Williams" decides to return to professional competition.
