Tsitsipas recently recalled a memorable night with Federer and Nadal. The Greek player described it as a “very fun night” and revealed that he got drunk during that occasion.

Recently, Tsitsipas made a surprise appearance on the podcast "What's The Call?" hosted by his ex-girlfriend Theodora. During the show, he discussed his favorite Grand Slam tournaments, pre-match rituals, and his first experience with drinking alcohol.
When talking about the personality differences between the two legendary players, Tsitsipas said Nadal is more introverted, while Federer is outgoing and talkative. “Rafa is a bit reserved; he’s not as chatty as Roger. Roger is very confident and will come over to talk to you, asking some silly questions. He’s like a kid—of course, in a good way. I really like that about him.”

Recalling an unforgettable night at the Laver Cup, Tsitsipas revealed that it was the first time he ever drank alcohol. “My first time getting drunk was with Rafa and Roger at the Laver Cup. It was my first time drinking; I had no idea what to order because I’d never tried any alcohol before. Roger said, ‘Come on, you have to have a drink.’ I thought, ‘Alright, if Roger says I have to drink, then I will.’”
At that time ranked 32nd in the world, Tsitsipas described the night as “extremely fun” and shared that he and Thiem ended up standing on the table, singing and dancing. Surrounded by family and friends, he called that moment unforgettable and said it deepened his appreciation for tennis as a “team sport.”

At the 2019 Laver Cup, Tsitsipas partnered with Nadal and Federer in doubles matches. Although the Greek player lost both three-set battles, Team Europe ultimately won the trophy. “That experience brought me closer to my idols and helped me understand their personalities and real lives better. I appreciated them on a different level and in a way I rarely do on the regular tour. Meeting and interacting with them in this way created many emotional and beautiful memories,” the two-time Grand Slam finalist said in an interview with the Laver Cup official website.
Entering the 2026 season, Tsitsipas’ performance remains inconsistent, with disappointing results in his first three tournaments. He lost in the opening round in Adelaide and then won one match but lost again at both the Australian Open and the Rotterdam ATP 500 event.

Last season, severe back injuries and early exits nearly drained Tsitsipas of his passion for tennis. “I went through a long period when I couldn’t play tennis, something I had never experienced in my career. I felt distant from the court and competition; suddenly, I became an observer of tennis and the ATP Tour rather than a participant.”
“That feeling was very strange and frustrating because I could hardly do anything,” Tsitsipas said. “My back injury limited what I could do. If it refused to heal, the only thing I could do was wait and try to see specialists as much as possible.”
The former world No. 3 was troubled by back issues and exited in the second round or earlier in the last nine tournaments of the 2025 season. After the 2025 US Open, Tsitsipas played only two matches—both in the Davis Cup—before ending his 2025 season early.

At 27, Tsitsipas started the 2025 season ranked 11th, but due to his back problems, the player who reached the French Open and Australian Open finals failed to advance past the second round in all Grand Slam events, dropping to No. 32. Tsitsipas said he was encouraged by pain-free training in December and hopes to stay injury-free during this year’s competitions. For him, the key question is whether he can remain healthy and compete with a positive mindset.
Tsitsipas said time will provide the answer. “For many months, I’ve been filled with uncertainty. Actually, this feeling lasted for a while, even when I won in Dubai,” Tsitsipas said. “I wasn’t sure if I could maintain that level or even continue playing. Things got worse by spring, and I gradually lost my enjoyment of the sport.”
“When health becomes an issue, competing itself becomes less important; health is the most important thing in life. But even at the start of this year, I was still uncertain about my future.”(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Huohua)
