Sinner reveals crucial personal changes to catch up with Alcaraz

Jannik Sinner just secured an easy victory in his opening match at Indian Wells 2026. He disclosed a notable change aimed at catching up with Carlos Alcaraz.

Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner reveals he is conducting "two sessions per day" training sessions in his preparation program in an effort to reclaim the world number 1 position from his young Spanish rival Carlos Alcaraz.

Among the current top male tennis players worldwide, Alcaraz is the one with more outstanding form. However, Sinner asserts his goal is to soon return to the number 1 spot, and the initial step for that ambition is the campaign to conquer the title at the Indian Wells Masters tournament.

After defeating Czech player Dalibor Svrcina with a dominant score of 6-1, 6-1, Sinner disclosed he has had almost no days off over the past several months to increase his training volume.

"Tennis is an extremely harsh and competitive environment. You always have to improve yourself and adjust small details, because all other opponents are doing the same," Sinner shared.

"I always keep that in mind during every training session. The truth is I am pushing myself very hard. Over the past many months, I have had very few days off, and training twice a day has become quite familiar in my training schedule."

In the match against Svrcina, the Italian tennis player demonstrated complete dominance. He lost only two points in his service games and concluded the match after 64 minutes of play.

In the next round, Sinner will face Canadian tennis player Denis Shapovalov in his effort to move closer to his first career Indian Wells title.

Before the tournament commenced, Sinner was seen training on the court very early. The Italian tennis player stated that was a deliberate decision when he arrived in California ahead of schedule to prepare better.

"I am very happy to be back playing here," Sinner said. "I had the chance to meet some friends in the area whom I didn't have the opportunity to see last year. I also took advantage of arriving early to have time to relax, play golf, but most importantly, to train."

Sinner said he feels his spirit is in an ideal state ahead of the tournament. "Psychologically, I am in a very good position. I feel very fresh and eager to maximize my potential, while continuing to refine myself as a tennis player. I believe there are still many aspects I can elevate to a new level.

"I am satisfied with how we approach training sessions as well as matches. Nevertheless, there are still some points I need to improve and need to feel more confident about. But above all, I am very happy to be playing again, and that is the most important thing."
