Quarterfinals assembled! WTA Indian Wells: Swiatek serves a bagel to Muchova, Rybakina and Pegula set to meet.

On March 12 Beijing time, the women's singles quarterfinal lineup for the WTA1000 Indian Wells tournament was determined. Today saw two mid-match withdrawals. Third seed Elena Rybakina, leading British player Katie Boulter 6-4/4-3, advanced after Boulter withdrew due to a back injury. Rybakina will face fifth seed Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals, who defeated twelfth seed Belinda Bencic in straight sets 6-3/7-6(5). Rybakina and Pegula will meet for their eighth encounter (Rybakina leads 4-3), with their most recent clash being this year's Australian Open semifinal, where Rybakina won and went on to claim the title.

Although Pegula had lost all four previous meetings with Bencic, the American performed excellently on home soil today, reaching the tournament quarterfinals for the second time in her career. Moreover, she has advanced to the quarterfinals in all four events she has participated in this year (Brisbane semifinal, Australian Open semifinal, Dubai champion). Pegula joked in her post-match interview: "No one can beat me five times consecutively. She (Bencic) has always been a tough opponent for me, but I believe I am a different player since our last match (2023 Charleston)."

Another player who received a walkover is ninth seed Elina Svitolina. She led 6-1/1-1 when opponent Katerina Siniakova withdrew due to a right hip injury, after just 38 minutes of play. Siniakova had previously eliminated former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin, 27th seed Leylah Fernandez, and defending champion Mirra Andreeva in three consecutive grueling three-set matches. The accumulated fatigue from continuous competition left her unable to continue today, ending her surprise run.

Svitolina will face second seed Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals. Swiatek swept thirteenth seed Karolina Muchova 6-2/6-0 in just 77 minutes. Although Muchova has been in strong form recently, winning her highest-level title at the WTA1000 Doha event in February, Swiatek displayed a dominant performance today, not facing a single break point throughout the match.

Swiatek still gave Muchova high praise after the match: "She is one of my favorite female players to watch, so I was happy to play against her. Basically, she might be the only player whose matches I watch, which perhaps also explains why I can better sense how she plays."
