ATP Indian Wells: Djokovic exhausted in loss to defending champion Draper, Alcaras advances strongly

On March 12 Beijing time, the ATP Indian Wells Masters men's singles top half fourth-round matches unfolded, finalizing the quarterfinal lineup. World No. 1 Alcaras displayed steady performance today, defeating the newly father 13th seed Ruud 6-1/7-6(2), entering the quarterfinals here for the fifth consecutive year. With this 91-minute victory, Alcaras extended his unbeaten record in the 2026 season to 15 matches and improved his head-to-head record against Ruud to 6 wins and 1 loss.

"Honestly, my first-set performance left the opponent with no chance," Alcaras said after the match. "I'm very happy to play at this level. I'm pleased to advance and hope to maintain this level in the next round."

Alcaras will face former tournament champion Norrie in the quarterfinals. Norrie is, apart from Sinner, the last person to defeat Alcaras—this happened at last October's Paris Masters, where Alcaras lost after leading by one set against the British player. Norrie completed a 6-4/6-2 victory over Australian qualifier Hijikata Rinki in the fourth round, marking his fifth career Masters quarterfinal appearance, with four of those coming at Indian Wells; the California desert is undoubtedly his fortunate ground.

In the spotlight match between five-time tournament champion Djokovic and defending champion Draper, the two delivered a high-quality battle lasting 2 hours and 35 minutes. Ultimately, Draper reversed Serbian superstar Djokovic 4-6/6-4/7-6(5), showcasing his most brilliant performance since returning in February this year and proving his capability as a former world No. 4. After securing the final quarterfinal spot, Draper will meet two-time tournament runner-up and 11th seed Medvedev in the quarterfinals. Medvedev defeated local powerhouse Michelsen 6-2/6-4, maintaining a perfect 4-0 record against him and marking his 26th career Masters quarterfinal advancement.
