Surprise! Wu Yibing receives Miami main draw wildcard for the second consecutive year.

The most anticipated event on this week's tour is certainly the Indian Wells tournament. Being a combined 1000-level competition for both men and women, the Indian Wells event draws numerous elite players annually. The tournament is currently in its concluding stages, where top players appear in succession, delivering exciting matches in every session.

In men's singles, Alexander Zverev, as the fourth seed at Indian Wells this year, defeated Fils in straight sets in the quarter-finals. Along with earning 400 points and $340,000 in prize money, the German star has finally achieved the milestone of reaching at least the quarter-finals in every Masters event. He will compete against Jannik Sinner for a spot in the final, who easily defeated Lehecka to reach the Indian Wells semi-finals for the third time.

Compared to the stability in men's singles, the women's singles performance has been steady with slight fluctuations. Iga Swiatek, the two-time tournament champion and second seed, was eliminated by ninth seed Elina Svitolina in the recently concluded quarter-final. While ending her three-match losing streak against Swiatek, Svitolina also advanced to the women's singles semi-finals at this venue after a full seven-year gap.

Of course, our focus today is not solely on the Indian Wells tournament. News has also emerged regarding the Miami Open, which starts immediately after this event. The organizers have just announced all the main draw wildcards. Among them, Wu Yibing from mainland China has received a Miami main draw wildcard for the second consecutive year. Other men's singles wildcard recipients include Rinky Hijikata, Martin Damm, Darwin Blanch, and Moise Kouame.

Many fans might wonder why Wu Yibing has secured a main draw wildcard for two consecutive years. The primary reason is that the Miami 1000 tournament is now managed by IMG, and Wu Yibing is a contracted player with IMG. Additionally, other Chinese players under this company include Zheng Qinwen and Shang Juncheng, so Shang Juncheng is likely to receive a qualifying wildcard for this year's Miami 1000 event.

In the past, Wu Yibing has participated in the Miami Masters three times. Back in 2017, he received a qualifying wildcard for this tournament but unfortunately lost in the first round of qualifying.

By 2023, Wu Yibing had already earned direct entry based on his world ranking, ultimately reaching the second round. Last year, Wu entered the main draw via a wildcard but regrettably lost in the first round.

Besides the men's singles wildcards, the organizers have also announced the women's singles main draw wildcard recipients. They are Venus Williams, Sloane Stephens, Taylor Townsend, Ashlyn Krueger, Jennifer Brady, Maria Lourdes Carle, Emerson Jones, and Linda Vodickova.

This year's Miami Open will take place from March 17th to 29th. The draw ceremony is scheduled for 2:30 AM Beijing Time this Sunday. The defending champions for this year's tournament are Jiri Lehecka and Aryna Sabalenka.(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Barbie)
