Miami Masters Men's Singles Draw: Wu Yibing and Zhang Zhizhen to Compete, Djokovic Withdraws Due to Injury

On March 17 Beijing time, the main draw for the 2026 ATP 1000 Miami Masters men's singles was released. Wu Yibing and Zhang Zhizhen directly entered the main draw, while Bu Yunchaokete and Huang Zelin will compete in the qualifying rounds; last year's runner-up and six-time tournament champion Novak Djokovic withdrew due to a right shoulder injury.

Wu Yibing received a wildcard to enter the main draw. He will face Canadian player Diallo in the first round, marking their first encounter; his potential second-round opponent is the 31st seed Humbert. Zhang Zhizhen entered the main draw using a protected ranking. He drew French player Mannarino in the first round; they have faced each once before, with Zhang Zhizhen winning in straight sets at the 2024 Rome Masters. If he advances, his second-round opponent would be the 22nd seed Paul.

Top Eight Seeds Matchups

[1] Alcaraz vs [6] Fritz

[4] Musetti vs [5] de Minaur

[8] Shelton vs [3] Zverev

[7] Aliassime vs [2] Sinner

World No. 1 and former tournament champion Alcaraz leads the first quarter, paired with the sixth seed Fritz. In 2022, Alcaraz won his first Masters title in Miami, but in subsequent years he failed to return to the final. Now, returning to Florida as a Grand Slam champion with an impressive 16-1 record this season, Alcaraz aims to contend for the title. His first opponent will be either Brazilian rising star Fonseca or Marozsan.

Zhang Zhizhen is in the second quarter, guarded by the fourth seed Musetti and the fifth seed de Minaur. Other seeded players in this section include Bublik, Cobolli, Vacherot, and Fils, along with notable players like Dimitrov and Tsitsipas. The third seed Zverev and the eighth seed Shelton anchor the third quarter where Wu Yibing is placed. The 2023 tournament champion Medvedev, who recently reached the final at Indian Wells, is seeded ninth and also placed in this quarter. His first opponent will be the winner between local player Kovacevic and wildcard Sakamoto.

The newly crowned Indian Wells Masters champion Sinner will start from the fourth quarter, aiming for the "Sunshine Double" – an achievement only accomplished by Djokovic among active male players. Sinner won the Miami title in 2024. His first opponent this year will be either Dzumhur or a qualifier. The defending champion Mensik is also in this quarter, paired with the 19th seed Tiafoe and the seventh seed Aliassime. If he advances smoothly, he could face Sinner in a strong fourth-round matchup.

Founded in 1985, the Miami Open, with its longer history, competes closely with Indian Wells for the title of "Fifth Grand Slam." In 2019, the tournament moved to the Hard Rock Stadium, further expanding its venue scale. This season's ATP Miami Masters will take place from March 18 to 29 Beijing time. The total prize money is $9,415,725, with the singles champion earning 1000 ranking points and $1,151,380.
