Who will be the third player to break the dominance of Alcaraz and Sinner?

Since the 2024 season, world number one, the versatile Spanish warrior Alcaraz, and world number two, the Italian rising star Sinner, have shone as two destined talents, establishing a dominant reign over men's tennis.

All nine Grand Slam titles since the 2024 season have been won by Alcaraz and Sinner. After winning the 2026 Australian Open, Alcaraz achieved a career Grand Slam, becoming the youngest player in men's tennis history to accomplish this at the age of 22 years and 272 days. With seven Grand Slam titles, Alcaraz is also the youngest player in men's tennis to win seven major championships.

Both ATP Finals titles in Turin during the 2024-2025 season were won by Sinner. Among the 20 Masters tournaments since the 2024 season, except for the three Masters events where neither Alcaraz nor Sinner participated (2024 Rome, 2025 Madrid, and Canada Rogers Cup), Alcaraz and Sinner captured ten of the remaining 17 Masters titles, demonstrating their undeniable dominance. In the seven Masters tournaments they did not win, only once did both Alcaraz and Sinner compete together (2024 Madrid); in the other six, only one of them participated.

Sinner recently achieved a cross-season streak by winning three consecutive Masters titles in Paris, Indian Wells, and Miami, ranking second in ATP history since the Masters series was established in 1990, behind only the four consecutive Masters titles previously achieved by Spanish legend Nadal and Serbian superstar Djokovic. Even more astonishing, Sinner set a new record with a 34-match winning streak in Masters matches across seasons, becoming the first player in ATP history since 1990 to achieve this, far surpassing Djokovic's previous record of 24 consecutive Masters match wins.

Thus, the dominant reign of Alcaraz and Sinner over men's tennis is solid and unquestionable. Moreover, it appears that their dominance will continue for a long time. Hence, a question arises: Who will become the third player to break the dominance of Alcaraz and Sinner?

After losing in three sets to the eventual champion and returning world number one Alcaraz in the 2025 US Open semifinals, 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic admitted to the media: "The rivalry between Alcaraz and Sinner is undoubtedly the most exciting in men's tennis right now, and it seems it will continue for some time. I hope someone can join the competition and become the third player to break the dominance of Alcaraz and Sinner."

Swiss maestro Federer and Serbian superstar Djokovic both favor one player: the 2024 ATP Milan Next Gen Finals champion, Brazilian talent Fonseca, born in August 2006. Federer believes: "Fonseca's forehand, backhand, and serve are all powerful, and he fights for every point with full effort. He is at a crucial stage of development with limitless potential. I hope Fonseca has the ambition to win Grand Slams and believe he absolutely has the ability to compete for the highest honors." Djokovic views: "Fonseca's powerful groundstrokes from both sides and strong serve form a quite mature technical system. Particularly, the maturity and on-court resilience he displays beyond his age are very impressive. I think Fonseca could be a potential challenger to the dominance of Alcaraz and Sinner."

Besides Brazilian newcomer Fonseca, who else might be the third player to break the dominance of Alcaraz and Sinner? Perhaps it could be British master Draper, born in December 2001, or Czech master Mensik, born in September 2005, or even Spanish youngster Landaluce, born in January 2006, who recently made his first Masters quarterfinal appearance at the Miami Masters!

Draper, a left-handed player with a two-handed backhand, excels in serving and forehand/backhand strokes. He has already beaten Sinner once (2021 ATP500 London Queen's Club first round), Alcaraz twice (2024 ATP500 London Queen's Club second round and 2025 Indian Wells Masters semifinal), and Djokovic once (2026 Indian Wells Masters 1/8 final), and won the 2025 Indian Wells Masters title.

Mensik has beaten Djokovic once (2025 Miami Masters final) and Sinner once (2026 ATP500 Doha quarterfinal), and won the 2025 Miami Masters title. Landaluce performed remarkably at the recently concluded Miami Masters. After qualifying, he saved a match point in the 1/8 final to reverse defeat against American star junior Korda, who had almost emotionally overwhelmed his compatriot Alcaraz in the third round, making his first Masters quarterfinal appearance and leaving a very deep impression.

Who will be the third player to break the dominance of Alcaraz and Sinner? It might also be a yet-unrevealed player from the post-2010 generation, which remains unknown.
