Eleven titles, eight consecutive crowns... recounting Nadal's illustrious history in Monte Carlo!

The Monte Carlo Masters main draw kicks off today in Beijing time. When it comes to the most successful player in the history of this tournament, it is undoubtedly the King of Clay, Rafael Nadal.

Looking back at the Spanish superstar's historical achievements in this event, they are countless; let's take a detailed inventory.

In 2008, he won 10 matches (singles/doubles) within a week, clinching the singles championship while also partnering with Robredo to secure the doubles title.

Nadal didn't only excel in singles at this tournament; in his first peak natural year, 2008, he swept both singles and doubles titles, with his doubles partner being compatriot Robredo.

In 2010, he embarked on the "Clay Grand Slam" championship journey (Monte Carlo, Rome, Madrid, French Open).

It is well known that 2010 was Nadal's second peak natural year. That year, he uniquely achieved the feat of winning all three different types of Grand Slam titles throughout the year.

Additionally, he had another achievement that left many envious: sweeping all major clay court championships. Among these, the French Open was his comeback after suffering his first defeat in 2009, especially significant as he defeated Söderling in the final—the Swedish player who had handed him his first Roland Garros loss the previous year. Winning the Monte Carlo Masters title was, naturally, his routine operation.

In 2012, he secured an unprecedented eight consecutive tournament titles (2005~2012).

Since winning the title in his first appearance at Monte Carlo, Nadal's dominance in this tournament has been most evident, extending to eight consecutive crowns. Many players reached the final of this event only to lose to a player named Nadal.

In 2017, he became the first player in the Open Era to win the same tournament title ten times.

After securing eight consecutive titles, Nadal's victories at Monte Carlo slowed down, but when he regained his second peak in 2017, he successfully reclaimed the tournament championship.

In 2018, he won the title for the fifth time without dropping a set, rewriting the Monte Carlo championship record to 11 titles.

This was Nadal's last triumph in this tournament. Besides defending his title, he elevated his personal best record for a single Masters event to 11 titles, making it his most successful tournament besides the French Open.

In recent years, this tournament, hailed as a bellwether for the French Open, has produced several new champions. Nadal's legend in this event undoubtedly continues to shine brightly in the annals of history.Source: Tennis Home, Author: Luo Cheng Qi Ye
