Many prominent players will be absent from the third Grand Slam event of the year.
With just over a week left before the tournament begins, Wimbledon 2026 is facing a significant shortage of talent as the number of withdrawals has reached 11. A series of well-known ATP and WTA stars have been forced to say goodbye to the grass-court Grand Slam due to ongoing injury issues.
The 139th edition of Wimbledon will take place from June 29 to July 12, and the list of players unable to participate is growing longer. In recent days, Tomas Machac, Sebastian Korda, and Veronika Kudermetova are the latest names to confirm their withdrawal.
Notably, the ATP is losing three top-seeded players: Carlos Alcaraz, Lorenzo Musetti, and Valentin Vacherot. This is considered a major blow to the tournament, especially since Alcaraz and Musetti are both regarded as strong contenders expected to go deep on grass.
Alcaraz has not played since suffering a right wrist injury at the Barcelona Open in April. The Spanish player said his recovery is progressing positively but he is still not fit enough to return to competition. His absence from Queen's Club and Wimbledon means Carlitos will miss the entire grass-court season this year.
Meanwhile, Musetti continues to struggle with a thigh muscle injury he picked up in Rome back in May. The Italian player admitted that the decision to withdraw was very difficult, but it was a necessary choice to ensure he is fully fit before returning to competition.
In the women's draw, Veronika Kudermetova is still recovering from surgery at the end of 2025 and has not played any matches this season. Two other notable names, Victoria Mboko and Hailey Baptiste, have also been forced to withdraw.
In particular, Mboko had to end her grass-court season early after sustaining an MCL injury in her left knee at Queen's Club. The 19-year-old Canadian player said she is very sorry to miss Wimbledon, a tournament she had been looking forward to for a long time.
