The reigning SEA Games champion continues to show outstanding growth on the Tour.
Alexandra Eala is experiencing one of the most impressive phases of her career, consistently making waves at the 2026 Berlin Ladies Open. Not only has she caused a stir with victories over a series of top global opponents, but the young Filipino player has also shown clear development in competitive composure and tactical thinking on her path to the semifinals of this prestigious WTA 500 event.
Before arriving in Berlin, Eala had a perfect warm-up by winning the title in Birmingham. That grass-court championship gave the 21-year-old the confidence needed to enter the crucial summer tournament series, and she quickly made an impact in Germany.
At the Berlin Open, Eala consistently overcame tough challenges. After victories over Donna Vekic and Elena Rybakina, she went on to defeat top seed Elina Svitolina 6-3, 6-4 on the evening of June 19 (Vietnam time) to earn a spot in the semifinals. This also marks the first time a Filipino player has reached the semifinals of a WTA 500 tournament.
The win over Svitolina marked the fourth time this season that Eala has beaten a top-10 player, bringing her career total of top-10 victories to six. This achievement ensures she will return to the top 30 world rankings and puts her in a position to set a new career-high ranking if she keeps advancing.
"I think I'm improving, and I hope that's true. When you continuously play against top opponents, you are pushed to your limits and forced to bring out all your abilities. Some weeks are better than others, and I'm really enjoying this moment.", Eala shared.
In the Berlin Open semifinals this year, the reigning SEA Games champion will face Linda Noskova. Eala has generally not had good results against opponents from the Czech Republic on the professional tour.
