Swiatek was stalked and harassed by a man who attacked his mother and a psychologist on a team member

Recently, Swiatek was harassed by a troll in the stands during a training session at the Miami Open. The Polish player heard that the man had insulted her mother and team psychologist Daria Abramovich, who had openly planned a verbal attack on Swiatek on social media before the incident.

Ahead of the third-round match against Mertens, Swiatek came to the Miami Open training ground for training. However, her training didn't go well, with a spectator constantly abusing the world No. 2 from the stands while she was training with coach Wim Fasset.

The video footage also includes screenshots of the man's social media account X, where he boasted online that he had "successfully teased" Swiatek. The user revealed on social media that he planned to harass the five-time Grand Slam champion during training by asking questions about her relationship with her mother and psychologist Daria Abramovich.

"Tomorrow I'm going to Miami. I would ask Iga about her relationship with her mother. Do you have any questions for Daria? Because I'll ask her when I'm training. The user posted on social media.

In addition, the user filmed a video showing Swiatek talking to Abramovich visibly depressed after being pestered with questions about her "lack of contact" with her mother.

"Iga complained to Daria that someone was shouting and asking her questions about her mother from the stands. Iga is clearly upset! Another post reads.

After the shocking video sparked a backlash from tennis fans, the user deleted his X account. Despite the worrying incident, Swiatek defeated Mertens 7-6(2) 6-1 in the third round of the Miami Open to advance to the next round.

In response to the incident, Swiatek's team, led by her PR expert Daria Surgostovska, issued a statement detailing how they and the WTA were responding to the matter. The troll's social media X (formerly Twitter) account has been deleted, while Swiatek has refocused her efforts to regain the Miami Open title she won in 2022.

Tennis journalist Diego Babiani shared Surgostovska's statement on the X platform, which read: "Security is the highest priority. We monitor the network for similar issues. Constructive criticism is one thing, but threats, hate speech, and even interference with training are another—these are intolerable. We have reported the matter to the tournament organizers and the WTA, who responded quickly and put in place additional safety measures, for which we are deeply grateful. The safety of the players is paramount, they are at the heart of the tournament and it is our job to protect them. ”

After the victory over Mertens, Swiatek will face Svitolina in the fourth round of the Miami Open. In a post-match sideline interview, the Polish player expressed her love for the WTA 1000 event, despite being harassed by crazy trolls while training.

Swiatek stressed that she wants to extend her tournament as long as possible and is happy with the win over Mertens. She also said that she is very much looking forward to a fierce matchup with Svitolina.

"I love playing here. I missed this race in 2023, so I want to cherish every day here and not take anything for granted. I'm ready to train hard and hopefully stay here longer. It was a good game today, we had some intense moments, but I managed to get through. I'm proud and looking forward to the next game. Swiatek said.

Swiatek leads Svitolina 2-1 in head-to-head records, including her 6-1 6-4 victory at Dubai 2024. If world No. 2 Swiatek beats Svitolina again, she will face Eyala in the quarterfinals.(Source: Tennis Home Author: Spark)
