WTA Miami: Sabalenka beats Paulini and Pegula ends Ella's dark horse journey

On March 27, local time, the 2025 WTA Miami station ended the competition for the women's singles semifinals. World No. 1 Sabalenka swept past sixth seed Paulini 6-2, 6-2 in 71 minutes to reach back-to-back finals in the North American Sunshine Doubles.

Sabalenka

Sabalenka won the WTA in Brisbane this season, but has since finished runners-up at both the Australian Open and WTA Indian Wells. Sabalenka had the upper hand 3-2 in the previous five meetings between the two sides, and she broke twice in both sets and held her serve to win 6-2, 6-2.

Sabalenka will face Pegula in the final, who battled out the wild card Ella 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-3 in three sets on the night court to end her opponent's dark horse run at the tournament.

Pegula

Pegula and Sabalenka have met eight times before, with Sabalenka holding the lead 6-2, with the last meeting coming in last year's US Open final, when Sabalenka won her third Grand Slam women's singles title in straight sets. Pegula, on the other hand, has defeated her opponent twice in the group stage of the 2020 WTA Cincinnati and the 2023 WTA Finals.

The Straits pair Jiang Xinyu/Wu Fangxian will challenge for a place in the Women's Doubles final tomorrow morning at 9:00 GMT, against Andreeva/Schneider.
