For the second time in just a few months, tennis superstar Novak Djokovic has been involved in a dispute with the local municipal council over his mansion in Marbella, Spain.
Djokovic and his wife Elena own a luxury villa on the Costa del Sol worth around £8.5 million, where the family prefers to spend time with their two children rather than Monte Carlo and New York. The villa is fully furnished with nine bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and is also equipped with an indoor pool, cinema, gym, spa, and more.
In 2022, the Djokovic family underwent a major renovation of the villa, but apparently did not follow the strict regulations of the local government. According to the Marbella 24 Hour, the renovation was carried out without the necessary permits. Since February 2024, the Marbella City Council has been moving forward with the process of restoring the legitimacy of the plan against the Djokovics.
The violations, which included the demolition of the basement parking lot and the construction of a new three-story building, porch, bathroom and shower room, violated the building's floor height restrictions and minimum distance from the boundary.
On August 6, 2024, Djokovic's family was fined for the first time. An inspection in October last year found that they still had not provided the required documents. On February 13 of this year, they were again fined 5,000 euros. Continued non-compliance could result in up to 12 fines.
These fines are just a drop in the bucket for Djokovic, who earned $186,287,619 million in career bonuses and has a net worth of more than $200 million. But the Djokovics' housekeeping skills have to be questioned.
Today, the Djokovic family, who own several properties, prefer to live in Marbella.
