Alcaraz reached the final of the Monte Carlo Masters and was just one win away from returning to second place in the world rankings.
Alcaraz put in a strong performance in the match, beating compatriot Davidovich Fokina 7-6(2), 6-4 to reach the final in Monte Carlo for the first time. If he wins in the final, he will overtake Zverev and return to the No. 2 ranking in the world.
The first set was a long affair that lasted more than an hour, with Alcaraz missing three set points. And they also struggled to win the game, not winning until the sixth match point. It was his 23rd tour-level final as he fought to win his 18th tour.
After the match, Alcaraz was in a happy mood to communicate with the fans and celebrate reaching the final of the Masters for the first time since the Indian Wells Masters in March 2023. He said:
"It's been a long time and I just have to be patient and trust that this moment will come again. Sometimes people don't have patience and they want me to make it to the final in every event. I'm really happy to give them the chance to watch my final again. ”
He commented positively on his performance:
"I feel like I played really well from the start of the game to the last point. I tried to take advantage of the opportunities he gave me in the game. He saved a lot of break points and match points, but I'm really happy to focus on myself. Most importantly, I feel that I am in very good physical condition. ”
Alcalá admits that in his first clay tournament at the start of the week, he focused on adapting to the conditions. Because the ball bounces differently on clay, the game is also different. Now he's happy to be at where he is now, but he thinks he can do better. After the Miami game, he realized that he had to focus on the game itself and enjoy the game without having to think about the result or anything.
"That's the most important thing for me, don't care about what other people expect or what they say about me. That's what I'm trying to do, and I think it's been going well so far. Today was my best match of the tournament so far. I didn't let him find a chance to take control of the game and make a comeback. I showed great skill throughout the game. ”
Alcaraz will continue to work hard to improve himself and, if possible, take it up another notch in the final. We are looking forward to a better performance from him in the final.
