In last night's ATP 250 final in Geneva, Serbian star Novak Djokovic once again showed his unrivalled resilience and championship credentials. In the face of a strong challenge from Poland's Hurkacz, Djokovic came back from 5-7 7-6(2) 7-6(2) to not only maintain his eight-match winning streak against Hurkacz, but also to win his 100th career tour singles title, becoming the third male player in the Open era to join the "100 Championships Club" after Connors (109 titles) and Federer (103 titles).
The final was one of the most up-and-down matchups of the season, with Djokovic putting it to the test both physically and tactically.
First setHurkacz managed to limit Djokovic's attacking tempo with a first-serve rate of 92 percent and a precise backhand cut. In the 12th game, Djokovic made a double fault on the set of the non-guaranteed service game, and Hurkacz took the lead 7-5.
In the second set, Djokovic improved the quality of his serve, but Hurkacz's serve was still strong, and the two sides were deadlocked all the way to tie-break. Deyo burst out in the tie-break, and won the tie-break 7-2 with his near-perfect baseline coverage and backhand straight line winning point, and pulled back a set.
Hurkacz broke first in the deciding set, but Djokovic quickly broke back and showed the composure of a Grand Slam champion on crucial points. The game went into a tie-break again, and Deyo sealed the victory with the same score of 7-2 and completed a shocking reversal.
This trophy means a lot to Djokovic:
1. First title of the season: Although Djokovic won the Olympic gold medal last year, he has not won a tour title for more than a year since winning the US Open in 2023, and now winning the gold medal in Geneva announced to the world that the "king is back";
2. Hundred Championships: Became the third male player in history to achieve this feat, behind Connors and Federer;
3. French Open: As the last warm-up before the French Open, winning the championship greatly boosted his confidence to reach the 25th Grand Slam.
Despite being 38 years old, Deyo continues to break records:
Oldest player to win 100 titles (surpassing Federer's record of 37)
20 years of championship across seasons (2006-2025)
Finals win rate against Top 10 players (83%, 1st in active players)
The 2025 French Open kicks off today, and after winning the title in Geneva, Djokovic will go straight to Roland Garros non-stop.From his first Dutch Open title in 2006 to the Geneva 100 Championship in 2025, Djokovic has spent 19 years forging the most enduring dominance in tennis history. The comeback was not just a victory, it was a statement of faith – as long as he stood on the tennis court, history could still be rewritten. As he said after the race: "100 is just a number, my goal is always the next one. The French Open is about to open, and a new chapter for Novak has just begun. (Source: Tennis Home Author: Mei)
