Misolic: Djokovic's former training partner and opponent in the third round of the French Open

At Roland Garros on Saturday, Philippe Misolic will have a knock on the door as he battles three-time French Open champion Novak Djokovic for a place in the round of 16.

The 23-year-old Austrian made it out of qualifying at the French Open, beating China's Buyun Chaokert in the first round and 27th seed Shapovalov in the second round in five sets 7-6(5)/7-6(6)/4-6/4-6/6-3 to advance to the round of 32. This is his best result in a Grand Slam tournament.

But he can draw on past experience. Misolic trained with Djokovic ahead of last year's US Open and has also faced other former Grand Slam champions Stan Wawrinka and Dominic Thiem in his career so far.

Misolic once wrote to Djokovic on Instagram: "Thank you @djokernole for a wonderful week. Djokovic liked the story and followed the Austrian player.

Misolić, who is currently ranked 153rd in the ATP rankings, turned professional in 2019 and has steadily risen in the rankings since then. He reached his first ATP Tour final as a wild card at Kitzbühel on home soil, beating top-100 players Andugar and Lajovic along the way.

Speaking after Kitzbühel 2022, Misolic said:

"I knew that if I trained hard, I might be able to reach the final of an ATP tournament one day, but I never thought I would make it to the final in my first main event. I'm very happy, it's a huge motivation to train harder and make it to the finals. ”

Misolic has loved clay tennis since he was a child. He has won three ATP Challenger titles in his career, all on clay, including one in Prague earlier this month.

Last year in the French capital, Misolic advanced to the main draw, but lost in the second round to Cerundolo, who was ranked 27th in the world at the time. Last month, he reached the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 in Bucharest, where he lost to champion Koboli.

The Austrian started the year outside the 300 ATP rankings and would see his live rankings soar if he wins his first head-to-head ATP meeting with Djokovic.

Misolic Says:

"I started playing when I was six years old. My sister had a knee injury at the time, and we already had winter training on the course. Then I started practicing with her coach and everyone noticed that I was playing well. I like to train at home because I feel most at home there. ”

He calls his tennis idol Andy Murray, who has just finished working with Djokovic.

He will now face tennis legend Novak Djokovic, who has a 98-16 record at the French Open. From Djokovic's point of view, he will continue to be challenged by new ATP players. Judging from past experience, Djokovic is very good at "killing ripeness". He barely "allowed" himself to lose to the same stranger in a row. Of course, in terms of Djokovic's current state, there should be no pressure to face players outside the top 100, or even players outside the top 50.
