A single stone creates ripples; fitness coach Ferrara returns to Sinner's team.

Recently, the world number one tennis player Jannik Sinner made a shocking decision—hiring Umberto Ferrara as his fitness coach. This news quickly became the center of attention, as Ferrara was previously dismissed from Sinner's team due to a doping controversy. His return undoubtedly sends a "stone" into the tennis world, creating waves of discussion.

This is not Ferrara's first collaboration with Sinner. In 2022, he joined Sinner's team, possessing a background in pharmaceutical technology during Sinner's career rise. With Ferrara's support, Sinner significantly climbed to fourth in the ATP rankings in 2023, winning his first Masters title; at the beginning of 2024, he even captured the Australian Open title, followed by victories in Rotterdam, Miami, and other tournaments. It can be said that Ferrara was one of the key members in Sinner's early success.

However, the turning point came during the doping scandal in 2024.As the fitness coach responsible for overseeing anti-doping compliance, Ferrara was accused of handing a spray containing the banned substance clostebol to physiotherapist Nardi, knowing that Nardi often treated Sinner without gloves.Subsequently, Sinner tested positive for drugs twice; although he was ultimately deemed "not at fault," the responsibility was attributed to the negligence of Ferrara and Nardi. Both were immediately dismissed by Sinner after the incident became public in August 2024. At that time, Sinner clearly stated that he had "lost confidence in them" and admitted he needed "breathing space."

After his dismissal, Ferrara did not distance himself from tennis and instead collaborated with another Italian player, Berrettini. In April 2025, he publicly responded to the controversy for the first time, stating that he felt hurt by the "superficiality and malice" of the outside world and expressed that he "would no longer rely on the actions of others." Meanwhile, after dismissing the two, Sinner continued to perform excellently, winning the 2024 US Open and the 2025 Australian Open, but ultimately accepted a three-month suspension due to an appeal from the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Before this year's Wimbledon,Sinner parted ways with his new fitness coach Panichi and others, and during his Wimbledon victory, the team did not have a dedicated fitness coach. Many expected him to find a new face for the US Open defense, but unexpectedly, he chose the "old hand" Ferrara. Sinner has yet to respond to this decision, but the team stated that Ferrara had "played an important role" in Sinner's development, and his return aims for "continuity and top performance."

From being dismissed due to controversy to an unexpected return less than a year later, the "reunion" of Ferrara and Sinner will undoubtedly thrust this Italian star back into the spotlight. How Sinner will explain this decision next, and what impact Ferrara's return will have on the team, have become the focus of public attention.
