The Chinese players faced a challenging opening match at the Women's Volleyball World Championship.
Before the match between China and Mexico began, the girls from the populous nation were considered much stronger. This is because they are currently ranked 5th in the world with many stars on their team at the Women's Volleyball World Championship. However, Mexico was the team to take the lead by winning the first set and caused numerous difficulties for China. Nevertheless, the class of the Chinese team was impressive as they won 3-1 (22-25, 26-24, 25-10, 25-18) and made a comeback after losing the opening set.
At the start of the first set, both teams executed sharp attacks, leading to a closely contested score. After about 5 minutes of play, the score was tied at 7-7, demonstrating the remarkable balance between the sides. Even in the crucial moments of the set, the Mexican girls were the ones who performed more skillfully and accurately. As a result, Mexico secured a surprising victory over China with a score of 25-22.
The tight contest continued into the second set, with Mexico delivering strong attacks while China constantly responded. Riding that momentum, the Mexican girls repeatedly created excellent attacking combinations and led China 14-11 after about 10 minutes. However, the Chinese players showed great resilience in chasing their opponents and were experienced enough to capitalize on their only set point to win 26-24.
Building on that momentum, China started the third set extremely well with consecutive points, creating a 7-point lead over their opponents. This gap continued to widen as Mexico kept making mistakes while the Chinese girls coordinated very effectively. At the end of the third set, China won decisively with a score of 25-10.
After a somewhat slower third set, the Mexican girls returned stronger in the fourth set with good coordination and continuous scoring. This allowed Mexico to closely chase China in points during the early phase of the set. However, the quality of the Chinese players shone through at crucial moments, helping them clinch the set 25-18.
