The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has provided its evaluation of the Vietnam women's volleyball team at the 2025 World Championship now underway in Thailand.
Coach Tuấn Kiệt’s squad started the tournament with a 1-3 loss to Poland, one of the favorites to win. Before the upcoming match between Vietnam and Germany, FIVB stated: "If Poland is considered the top contender in Group G and Kenya is clearly the underdog, then the showdown between the remaining two teams, Germany and Vietnam, will be the crucial factor deciding who claims the second spot into the quarterfinals."
The Vietnam women's volleyball team will face the German women's team at 5:00 PM today (August 25).
According to FIVB, Germany is rated higher but must not be overconfident: "Naturally, Germany is still the leading candidate for that spot, but they could make a serious error by underestimating their opponent in the Group G opener on Monday in Phuket.
Vietnam is an ascending power in women’s volleyball. They demonstrated their potential when competing against the strong Polish team in their first match. Sooner or later, they will achieve a major breakthrough on the global stage. Why not in the game against Germany?"
"After a heavy loss to Germany on Saturday, Kenya will try once more to leave their mark at this World Championship when they face Poland in the second Group G match on Monday," FIVB continued.
The German women's volleyball team (ranked 13th worldwide) aims to defeat Vietnam to secure progression. In their opening match, they beat Kenya 3-0.
Historically, the German women's volleyball team has participated in the Olympics 8 times, with their highest achievement being a silver medal in 1980 (East Germany). They have competed in the World Championship 18 times, with their best result being 4th place in 1974 and 1986 (East Germany). In the Volleyball World Cup, Germany finished 6th in 1989 and 2011.
