Coach Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt provided important comments following the Vietnam women's volleyball team’s completion of the second round in the 2025 World Championship group stage.
The Vietnam women's volleyball team finished their second match in Group G at the 2025 World Championship. Facing Germany, ranked 11th globally, defeat was anticipated.
However, the key point is that Coach Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt’s players demonstrated brave fighting spirit, produced many commendable plays, and made it difficult for the European opponent to secure an easy victory.
The match was filled with emotional ups and downs. Germany had a balanced lineup, highlighted by a strong offense featuring Orthmann, Alsmeier, and Weitzel, along with solid defense and blocking, which gave them the upper hand for most of the game. Nevertheless, Vietnam refused to give up.
In the first and second sets, although losing 18-25 and 17-25, the girls in red fought fiercely, forcing the opponent to deploy their strongest players. In the third set, Vietnam played with more confidence, even leading at times thanks to the captain Trần Thị Thanh Thúy’s bursts and contributions from Như Quỳnh and Bích Thủy. Still, Germany’s stability and experience allowed them to turn the tide and close the set at 25-21.
After the match, Coach Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt praised the entire team’s effort. He frankly acknowledged the results were not as hoped, but emphasized the invaluable experience gained.
“In the last two matches, we faced top-tier world teams like Poland and Germany. The players showed resilient spirit, created many great plays, and did not fear the pressure. This is an opportunity to learn and accumulate experience, so that with each game we become stronger,” he shared.
From a technical perspective, the Vietnam women's volleyball team still shows weaknesses in first ball reception and attack organization. When the back row is not stable, it is difficult to execute a fast and diverse playing style.
Nonetheless, progress is clearly visible. In the match against Poland, we surprisingly won a set, and against Germany, the girls in red again had moments of playing on par and even leading against a team with superior height and experience.
Germany’s victory over Vietnam helped them secure the top spot in Group G and prepare for a crucial match against Poland for first place. For us, the final match against Kenya will be especially meaningful. It is an opportunity for Coach Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt’s team to aim for a win and leave a good impression in their debut appearance at the biggest stage of world volleyball.
