The Vietnamese women's volleyball icon who once declined to play in Japan has unexpectedly encountered misfortune.

She is one of the leading figures in Vietnamese women's volleyball, having declined to play in the world's top volleyball league. Sadly, she has recently encountered misfortune.

Middle blocker Bùi Thị Ngà has suffered a recurrence of her injury, risking absence in the second phase of the 2025 National Volleyball Championship.

Having been back in training for over six months, Bùi Thị Ngà was expected to return to play for Thông Tin Đông Bắc in the second phase of the 2025 National Volleyball Championship. Coach Phạm Văn Long confirmed the comeback of this once-renowned middle blocker.

Unfortunately, Bùi Thị Ngà recently experienced a relapse of her injury during training. This injury puts her at risk of being unable to compete for Thông Tin Đông Bắc as planned.

This is very sad news for fans of Thông Tin Đông Bắc specifically and Vietnamese volleyball supporters generally, as they eagerly awaited Bùi Thị Ngà’s return after a long absence from the court to focus on her family life.

Bùi Thị Ngà stands tall at 1.87 meters and is an excellent blocker.

Bùi Thị Ngà is a legend in Vietnamese women's volleyball. She stands 1.87 meters tall and is often described as a "tower" on the court. During her prime, she was not only a top scorer for Thông Tin Đông Bắc but also a key player for the Vietnamese national team.

According to the volleyball statistics site Volleybox, Bùi Thị Ngà ranks fourth among the best middle blockers in the history of Vietnamese women's volleyball. Her ideal height, combined with a 3.05-meter approach jump and a 3-meter block jump, allows her to compete evenly with top international opponents. Her presence has been crucial in helping the Vietnamese women's volleyball team achieve impressive results.

Throughout her career, Bùi Thị Ngà earned numerous individual and team awards. However, a severe knee ligament injury forced her to retire when she could not fully recover. At the end of 2022, she announced her retirement from professional volleyball at just 28 years old.
