Japan secured a 3-1 victory over Serbia, continuing their unbeaten run at the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Championship.
On the evening of August 27th at Huamark Arena (Bangkok), the team Japan women's volleyball team faced a tough match against Serbia but ultimately triumphed 3-1 (25-18, 30-28, 23-25, 25-22) in the third round of Group H. This result keeps the Asian representatives undefeated in all three group matches and firmly in first place.
From the first set, Japan started with strong determination and organized play. Hitters like Wada and Ishikawa consistently applied pressure, causing Serbia to commit many defensive errors. The first set quickly ended 25-18 in favor of Japan.
The second set was a thrilling back-and-forth battle. Serbia took the lead at times, but the Asian team's composure showed at the right moment. With steady performances from key players, Japan turned the match around and narrowly won 30-28 after 31 minutes of intense play.
Refusing to lose early, Serbia fought back fiercely in the third set. Uzelac and Aleksić led an explosive offense, helping the European team close the gap with a 25-23 win. However, that was Serbia’s only set victory in this match.
The fourth set saw the return of the trio Ishikawa – Yoshino – Wada for Japan. They alternated in scoring crucial points while the blocking was more solid. Although Serbia stayed close, Japan maintained focus to close the match with a 25-22 win.
Individually, captain Ishikawa continued to lead with 19 points, Wada contributed 15 points, and Yoshino scored 13 points. For Serbia, Uzelac was the standout hitter with 20 points, followed by Aleksić (11 points) and Bukilić (10 points).
With this victory, Japan remains unbeaten with three wins, holding the top position in Group H. Serbia is second with two wins and one loss. Ukraine and Cameroon have yet to secure a win after two rounds.
