Turkey is demonstrating the power expected from a favorite in this year's Women's Volleyball World Championship.
Turkey confirmed their dominance with a 3-0 win (25-21; 27-25; 25-13) over Canada, finishing the group stage of the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Championship undefeated with a set score of 9:0.
Turkey started focused and quickly took control of the match through diverse tactics. Despite Canada's efforts to keep up, they were unable to change the outcome as their key players appeared less effective compared to their opponents.
The Turkish team maintained their advantage through disciplined play, frequently exploiting gaps behind Canada's block. Canada managed to narrow the gap at times but ultimately had to accept a 21-25 defeat.
The second set was much more balanced. Both teams fought closely from the start, continuously chasing each other's scores. Canada played with determination, making good use of difficult serves and quick counterattacks, causing Turkey difficulties in organizing their plays.
However, at the crucial moment, the composure of the world’s number one team prevailed. Turkey kept their spirit high and effectively utilized wing attacks to overcome their opponent in a tense 27-25 finish.
In the third set, Turkey showed complete superiority. Their main hitters consistently scored points, while their block was highly effective, nearly neutralizing all of Canada’s attacks. Canada gradually lost rhythm, allowing Turkey to build a safe lead.
Turkey maintained their dominant position until the end of the set, not giving Canada any chance to turn the game around. They closed the set 25-13, sealing a 3-0 overall victory.
Superstar Melissa Vargas made a mark with 16 points, while captain Eda Erdem also performed excellently with 13 points. On the other side, middle blocker Nyadholi Thokbuom led Canada’s scoring, and Andrea Mitrovic, a foreign player for Thông tin - BĐ19 in the first phase of this year's national championship, contributed 7 points.
