Vietnam Women's Volleyball Achieves New World Ranking
The Vietnam women's volleyball team has experienced a severe drop in points on the FIVB ranking chart.
Before the tournament, Vietnam held the 22nd position globally, the highest in the history of Vietnamese women's volleyball. However, after the group stage, Coach Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt’s team lost 19.04 points and dropped 6 places, falling out of the top 25 teams worldwide. This was the result of defeats against group G opponents Poland, Germany, and Kenya.
In the opening match against Poland, ranked 3rd in the world, the Vietnamese players surprisingly won a set. As a result, despite losing 1-3 overall, the team only lost 0.01 points. This was considered a positive outcome given Poland’s superior level and experience. But in the second match, a 0-3 loss to Germany cost the team an additional 6.26 points. This was a significant point deduction due to the close ranking gap between the two teams.
The heaviest defeat came in the final match against Kenya, a team considered to be on par with Vietnam. The 0-3 loss caused Trần Thị Thanh Thúy and her teammates to lose as many as 12.77 points.
Notably, in a friendly match before the tournament, Vietnam had beaten Kenya 4-0, but in the official competition, the African team showed a completely different performance. With experience from seven World Championship appearances and multiple Olympic participations, Kenya demonstrated superior physical strength, effective wing attacks, and strong blocking, which repeatedly neutralized Vietnam’s offensive efforts.
Thus, after just three matches, the Vietnamese women's team lost nearly all the points they had accumulated at the SEA V.League 2025, where they won all four matches against Indonesia and the Philippines.
