Supporters will have to wait longer to witness the return of the renowned middle blocker Bùi Thị Ngà in the second stage of the 2025 National Volleyball League.
Former middle blocker Bùi Thị Ngà will not join Thông tin - BĐ19 for the second phase of the 2025 Women's National Volleyball Championship taking place in early October in Ninh Bình.
Earlier this year, Bùi Thị Ngà had indicated plans to return to professional volleyball after recovering from injury, then starting a family and having a child. The 1994-born attacker was also noted to have trained with the first team in preparation for this highly anticipated comeback.
However, due to not yet reaching optimal physical condition, Bùi Ngà is still unable to make her return this year. During the recent training camp in Shanghai of Thông tin - BĐ19, the once bright star of Vietnamese women's volleyball was also absent.
Born in 1994 in Ninh Bình, Bùi Thị Ngà is considered one of the best middle blockers of her generation. At the club level, she has won numerous titles with Thông tin - Đông Bắc (formerly Thông tin LVPB): 7 national championships (four consecutive from 2012-2015, three consecutive from 2019-2021); 3 runner-up finishes in the national championship; 1 championship and 4 runner-up placements at the Hùng Vương Cup; 3 titles at the Hoa Lư - Bình Điền Cup along with many other notable achievements.
At the national team level, Bùi Ngà was a key player for Vietnam, helping the team secure 3 silver medals at the SEA Games (2013, 2015, 2019) and a bronze in 2017. She retired early 2023 after winning the gold medal at the 2022 National Sports Festival with the military team.
Without Bùi Thị Ngà’s participation, Thông tin - BĐ19 will likely continue to rely on the middle blocker duo Phạm Thị Hiền and Nguyễn Như Quỳnh for the second half of this year’s national league. The team has also recruited the star foreign player Irina Voronkova aiming to reclaim the national championship and restore their former glory.
