The Philippines has officially been awarded the rights to host the 2029 Women's Volleyball World Championship, making it the first occasion the nation will hold this major women's volleyball tournament.
The Philippines has officially secured the hosting rights for the 2029 Women's Volleyball World Championship, the first time the country will stage the premier global women's volleyball event.
This historic decision was announced by FIVB and Volleyball World just before the 2025 Men's Volleyball World Championship final in Manila, with FIVB President Fabio Azevedo and Brazilian volleyball legend Leila Barros in attendance.
The successful hosting of the 2025 men's tournament positioned the Philippines as a strong contender for world-class volleyball events. Just four years later, the country has been selected again for the women's championship, continuing its growth and once more placing the Philippines on the global stage.
“Hosting the 2029 Women's Volleyball World Championship in the Philippines is an opportunity to showcase not only the excellence of volleyball but also the positive social impact the sport brings,” affirmed Mr. Azevedo. “Volleyball is unique due to its accessibility, inclusiveness, and ability to unite people from diverse cultures. This was proven at the 2025 men's event in the Philippines, and we are confident it will be repeated in 2029.”
This announcement came shortly after the United States and Canada were awarded joint hosting rights for the 2027 women's championship, the first time the event will take place in North America. Meanwhile, Qatar will host the 2029 men's tournament. With the Philippines joining the roster, the global volleyball map expands further, enhancing the sport's worldwide reach.
Tats Suzara, President of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF), expressed pride: “We are honored to be chosen to host another FIVB World Championship. Building on the valuable experience from the 2025 men's event, we are certain to perform even better for the 2029 women's championship. The Philippines is ready to be a lasting home for world-class volleyball.”
PNVF plans to focus on upgrading facilities, strengthening fan engagement, and developing youth volleyball programs in preparation for the tournament.
Beyond raising the country's prestige, hosting the event will significantly boost women's volleyball in the Philippines. As the world's top teams compete on home soil, the Alas Pilipinas Women’s team will gain invaluable experience, inspiration, and the chance to compete at the highest level right in their homeland.
With a vibrant volleyball culture and passionate fan base, the 2029 championship is expected to be a turning point, elevating Southeast Asian women's volleyball to new heights.
