Vietnam's female volleyball players might have to conduct their training within the country as the location for their pre-SEA Games 33 training camp remains undecided.
Vietnam's men's and women's volleyball teams are preparing for SEA Games 33 but have yet to confirm the overseas training site for the second phase. As shared in the press SGGP, Mr. Lê Trí Trường, Secretary General of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation, emphasized that the selection should be appropriate to improve skills; if a suitable venue is not found, the teams may train domestically before traveling to Thailand for the competition.
The women's volleyball team planned to train in Japan, but this is complicated by the overlap with the Japanese National Championship, making it difficult to schedule practice matches.
Coach Tuấn Kiệt and his players might have to conduct their training domestically.
It should also be understood that without friendly matches, the teams will face limitations in testing strategies, practicing tactics, and improving their skills.
Previously, the Vietnam women's volleyball team trained in Quảng Ninh, Vĩnh Yên, Đông Anh, and Tam Đảo; the men's team trained in Đà Nẵng and Hanoi. The second training phase will begin at the end of October, after the 2025 National Championship, with the return of fitness specialist Karl Lim.
The Vietnam women's volleyball team aims to win the gold medal at SEA Games 33 by the end of this year. However, Coach Tuấn Kiệt and his team face obstacles in their preparations. Outside hitter Trần Thị Thanh Thúy is currently competing in Japan for Gunma Green Wings and will have limited time to reunite with the women's national volleyball team before the Southeast Asian Games.
Notably, SEA Games is not part of the official competition calendar of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). Therefore, clubs are not obliged to release players to national teams. In late August, there were reports that the Vietnam Volleyball Federation is negotiating with Gunma to facilitate the participation of the 28-year-old outside hitter.
Thanh Thúy’s match schedule closely overlaps with the Vietnam women's volleyball team’s fixtures at SEA Games 33, expected to start on December 10. Gunma Green Wings have two important matches in the Japanese National Championship on December 6 and 7 against Himeji Victorina, so she can likely only return to Vietnam from December 8. This means Thanh Thúy will have just two days to train and reacquaint herself with the team before embarking on the journey to achieve the medal upgrade goal.
This will affect Coach Tuấn Kiệt’s training and preparation plans for SEA Games 2025 with the Vietnam women's volleyball team.
