Ho Chi Minh City Police show great ambition to fight for the title by bringing in two excellent foreign players.
The men’s volleyball team of Ho Chi Minh City Police recently successfully signed the Czech Republic attacker - Martin Licek for the matches in phase 2 of the 2025 National Volleyball Championship taking place in Ninh Binh.
Born in 1995, Martin Licek plays as an outside hitter with a height of 1.97m, a spike reach of 3.45m, and a block reach of 3.33m. At the club level, Licek has played for teams in his home country Czech Republic, Austria, and most recently Sporting Lisbon (Portugal), where he won the national championship and the national super cup.
At the national team level, Licek helped the Czech Republic win the European Golden League in 2022, finished second in the 2025 European Golden League, and was part of the Eastern European squad that reached the top 4 at the World Championship recently concluded in the Philippines last month.
It is likely that the 30-year-old outside hitter will serve as a rotation player for Michal Kubiak - the star who played for Ho Chi Minh City Police in phase 1 and had previously agreed to return to Vietnam. Although he is older, Kubiak’s experience and skill remain crucial for coach Duong Tan Vinh and his team in their quest to win the national championship in their first season after promotion.
Ho Chi Minh City Police is also the only team to hire two foreign players for phase 2 of the 2025 National Volleyball Championship. Previously, in phase 1, The Cong Tan Cang also brought in two big signings: Victor Andreu Flores and Alejandro Rodriguez Fuentes, but for the rest of the season, the military team places full trust in Southeast Asia’s top setter - Rivan Nurmulki.
Martin Licek and his teammates will face Da Nang and Bien Phong in the upcoming matches. As one of the two unbeaten clubs in phase 1 along with Bien Phong, Ho Chi Minh City Police are almost certain to have secured a spot in the playoff round to compete for the championship this season.
