The current runner-up, Lào Cai HCĐG, was unable to secure a spot in the top 4 of the 2025 Women's National Volleyball Championship, mainly because of their weak results in phase one.
The Lào Cai HCĐG women's volleyball team officially lost their chance to be in the top 4 of the 2025 national championship despite a comfortable win against XMLS Thanh Hóa in the opening match of phase two two days ago.
This marks the first time since 2020 that Lào Cai HCĐG has fallen out of the top 4. From 2020 to 2024, under owner Huyền, the team consistently ranked among the leaders and even held the record of winning silver medals for five consecutive seasons. This unprecedented streak ended as they no longer have the opportunity to compete in the finals or challenge for the championship against teams like VTV Bình Điền Long An, Thông tin - Đông Bắc, LPB Ninh Bình, and VietinBank.
Lào Cai HCĐG’s relatively weak performance compared to rival teams in phase one partly explains why the defending runner-up could not achieve a high ranking this season. After the first five matches, coach Nguyễn Hữu Hà’s squad recorded 2 wins and 3 losses, earning 5 points, which is 4 points behind the team above them, VietinBank.
With VietinBank and Thông tin - Đông Bắc both winning their opening matches in phase two, all hopes for Lào Cai HCĐG to enter the top 4 have been extinguished.
The 2025 season has been challenging for owner Huyền’s team. They are without key attacker Trần Tú Linh due to a serious injury and libero Lê Thị Thanh Liên who is temporarily resting from competition. Meanwhile, foreign player Sharon Chepchumba showed underwhelming form in phase one. Young players like Nguyễn Thị Kiều Oanh and Nông Thùy Anh still need more time to make a stronger impact on the first team.
Given their dominant head-to-head record against teams fighting relegation, the risk of Lào Cai HCĐG dropping to the national A division next year is extremely low. This season is effectively concluded for Trần Thị Bích Thủy and her teammates.
