Vietnamese female shooter wins gold and breaks Southeast Asian Championship record

Shooter Phi Thanh Thao brought great joy to the Vietnamese shooting team by winning the gold medal in the women's 10m air rifle event and setting a new record at the 2025 Southeast Asian Championship currently held in Thailand.

According to information from the coaching staff, Phi Thanh Thao, along with teammates Le Thi Mong Tuyen and Nguyen Thi Thao, represented Vietnam in the women's 10m air rifle event.

In the qualification round, Phi Thanh Thao performed excellently with a score of 632.2, ranking first on the leaderboard. Nguyen Thi Thao also advanced to the final with 624.8 points, while Le Thi Mong Tuyen ranked 17th and was eliminated in the qualifiers.

In the final, Phi Thanh Thao demonstrated composure and consistent performance, with each series of shots precise and full of emotion. She scored a total of 250.1 points, securing the gold medal and breaking the Southeast Asian record in the women's 10m air rifle event.

This is the first time Phi Thanh Thao has broken a regional record, marking a significant milestone in the young shooter's career. The following positions were taken by shooters from Thailand and Singapore, while Nguyen Thi Thao finished 8th overall with 121.6 points.

Not only succeeding in the individual event, the Vietnamese team also won the bronze medal in the team category with a total score of 1867.2. Singapore took gold with 1878.9 points, and Thailand placed second. This achievement further confirms the strong position of the Vietnamese shooting team in the region.

The coaching staff stated that the 2025 Southeast Asian Championship is considered an important preparation step for the shooters ahead of SEA Games 33, scheduled to be held later this year in Thailand. Notably, the current competition venue is also where the shooting events of the SEA Games will take place, allowing Vietnamese athletes to familiarize themselves early with the actual competition conditions.
