Thanh Thúy keeps up her strong performance in Japan, tallying 20 points and leading Gunma Green Wings in scoring even though the team was defeated by Queenseis Kariya.
On the afternoon of October 13th, outside hitter Trần Thị Thanh Thúy left a strong mark while playing for Gunma Green Wings, although her team suffered a defeat against Queenseis Kariya in the second round of the 2025-2026 SV League women’s volleyball tournament in Japan.
After a thrilling 3-1 victory over Kariya in the opening match, Green Wings entered the rematch with confidence. Thanh Thúy’s team started well by winning the first set 25-21, but then lost control. Kariya adjusted their strategy effectively and came back to win the next three sets 25-15, 25-18, and 25-22, concluding the match with a 3-1 win.
Despite the team’s loss, Thanh Thúy remained a rare bright spot for Gunma Green Wings. Playing as the outside hitter, she showed consistent performance, leading the team in both attacks and points scored.
Statistics show Thanh Thúy executed 42 attacks (the highest in the match) and scored 19 attack points, achieving an impressive efficiency rate of 45.2%.
Compared to the whole team, only middle blocker Michishita Hinano had a higher scoring rate (60%), but she only performed 20 attacks. Meanwhile, Polish foreign player Olivia Rozanski underperformed with only 12 successful attacks out of 36 attempts. Additionally, Thanh Thúy scored 1 ace, bringing her total points in the match to 20 and making her the top scorer for Gunma Green Wings.
Notably, this was Thanh Thúy’s second consecutive match scoring over 17 points for the Japanese club. The day before, she also contributed 17 points in Green Wings’ victory against Kariya.
The Vietnamese captain’s steady performance has excited fans back home. Many viewers commented that Thanh Thúy is showing the image of an increasingly well-rounded athlete—strong not only in attack but also making clear progress in blocking and back-row support.
This surge in form is a positive sign for the Vietnam women's volleyball team, as Thanh Thúy will be a key player aiming for the gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games taking place later this year.
