National Women's Volleyball Runner-up appoints rookie player as team captain

An unusual occurrence has taken place at the reigning national women's volleyball runner-up team, where a newly joined athlete has been entrusted with a significant responsibility.

The reigning runner-up of the National Women's Volleyball Championship (VĐQG) - LPB Ninh Bình has undergone a crucial organizational personnel change, as the team captain's armband has been assigned to national team main attacker - Nguyễn Thị Uyên.

Notably, Nguyễn Thị Uyên only joined the team at the beginning of this year. Having a rookie hold the captain's armband is an uncommon sight, especially when the LPB Ninh Bình lineup includes many experienced players who have been long-term members of the club, such as main attacker Đinh Thị Thúy or secondary attacker Lưu Thị Huệ.

From a professional standpoint, the main attacker born in 1999 is fully capable of handling this role well. She served as captain of Geleximco Thái Bình for many years, possessing all the qualities of a good captain. Additionally, the 26-year-old hitter is not unfamiliar with LPB Ninh Bình despite being a rookie, having previously played for the club on loan, and also maintains close relationships with her new teammates.

Nguyễn Thị Uyên will wear the captain's armband replacing secondary attacker Nguyễn Thị Trinh —who is likely to be absent this season after her wedding at the end of 2025. Previously, Nguyễn Thị Bích Tuyền was the captain of LPB Ninh Bình, but after the Vĩnh Long-born setter was absent during phase 2 of the previous national championship season, "Trinh điện" was the name entrusted with the major responsibility by coach Thái Thanh Tùng.

Bích Tuyền will continue not playing in the 2026 season and will only accompany Ninh Bình on the coaching bench, meaning Nguyễn Thị Uyên will be the leader both professionally and in spirit for the reigning national runner-up.
