Thus, coach Tran Dinh Tien and his players will only compete in two international tournaments this season.
The Vietnam men's volleyball team will not appear at the Asian Club Cup (AVC Champions League 2026), despite previously having the possibility to participate according to the initial plan. Changes in the competition format of the tournament caused the Vietnamese representative to not complete the necessary conditions in time to secure a spot.
According to research, starting in 2026, the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) implemented a regional qualification system to determine the teams participating in the continent's top club-level competition. Teams wishing to enter the final round must participate in their corresponding regional qualifiers, instead of receiving direct slots as before. The men's qualification round was held from February.
Previously, Border Guard, as the reigning champion of Vietnam, was granted the right to participate in the Southeast Asian regional qualifier to compete for a spot in the AVC Champions League 2026. However, the military team did not participate in the qualification match.
After that, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV) considered a plan for the Vietnam men's volleyball team to replace Border Guard's position. However, at the time the qualifiers took place in February, the national team had not been convened for training camp and thus could not participate. This meant that the opportunity for coach Tran Dinh Tien and his team to appear in this year's Asian Club Cup officially closed.
The AVC Champions League 2026 will take place in Indonesia from May 13 to May 17, featuring top clubs from the continent. Southeast Asia has two participating representatives from Thailand and host country Indonesia.
Therefore, the Vietnam men's volleyball team will only participate in two international tournaments this year: the SEA V.League and ASIAD 20. Previously, Nguyen Ngoc Thuan and his teammates also did not secure spots for the AVC Cup and the Asian Championship.
