Vietnam women's volleyball suffers first-ever defeat at AVC Cup

(Volleyball outcome) - For the first time since entering the AVC Cup in 2023, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team has tasted defeat in this competition. Placing second in Group B, they will probably meet South Korea in the semifinal round.

Set 1: Vietnam 25-18 Kazakhstan

The Vietnamese women's volleyball team had a slow start, allowing Kazakhstan to build a sizable lead early on, but the remainder of set 1 was entirely dominated by coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's squad. High-speed attacks with improved precision left Kazakhstan stunned and disorganized. An impressive set from Thanh Thuy and Bich Thuy, each scoring 6 points, propelled Vietnam to a 1-0 lead.

Set 2: Vietnam 19-25 Kazakhstan

The two teams traded points in a tight contest during the opening exchanges, before Kazakhstan fully capitalized on Vietnam's mistakes to open a 5-6 point gap midway through the set.

After unexpectedly losing control of set 2, Thanh Thuy and her teammates fought back fiercely, hoping to stage a surprise. However, outstanding performances from number 14 Syroyeshkina and number 77 Yatskiv helped the Central Asian representatives hold onto their advantage, bringing the decisive match for the top spot in Group B of this year's AVC Cup back to a balanced state.

Set 3: Vietnam 25-23 Kazakhstan

Another challenging set awaited Vietnam. Credit must be given to Kazakhstan, whose defense was exceptionally high-level, while their setter executed some clever dump shots with great sensitivity.

Fortunately in this set, Thanh Thuy received strong support from her teammates. Nhu Anh and especially Dinh Thuy played impressively, defending superbly and being the key factor that made the difference, helping us win narrowly to take a 2-1 lead.

Set 4: Vietnam 22-25 Kazakhstan

Vietnam did not play well on first touch, which was somewhat shaky, along with a few instances where Kim Thoa's setting was a bit stiff. But truthfully, Kazakhstan played exceptionally well - far better than in recent seasons. Their libero defended smoothly, the setter played tightly and cleverly, and all attackers hit well against blocks. The match headed to a decisive set 5.

Set 5: Vietnam 13-15 Kazakhstan

Set 5 saw both sides continuously exchange leads. As the set progressed toward the end, Kazakhstan, with their balanced attack and defense, played increasingly well. A defeat that left us with no complaints; we will still advance to the semifinals, but are likely to face South Korea early.

This is also the first time the Vietnamese women's volleyball team has lost a match since their debut at the AVC Cup in 2023.

Final result: Kazakhstan defeated Vietnam 3-2 (18-25; 25-19; 23-25; 25-22; 15-13).
