Thailand women's volleyball team continues to cause upsets at VNL 2026.

Pornpun and her teammates are making a strong comeback following five straight defeats in this top-tier world volleyball competition.

The Thai women's volleyball team claimed their second consecutive victory at VNL 2026 by defeating the strong Canadian side 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20) on the evening of June 20 (Vietnam time).

Facing a talented roster including Kiera van Ryk, Alexa Gray, Nyadholi Thokbuom, and Andrea Petrovic—a former player of Thong Tin-Dong Bac—Thailand showed no signs of intimidation, even outplaying the North American representative to create a shock over four sets.

Sasipapron Janthasiwut once again stood out as the top attacker for Thailand. The former foreign player of HCĐG Lao Cai excelled with 22 points, while Ajcharaporn Kongyot and Thatdao Nuekjang also made their mark with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Notably, for Sasipapron, this is the second consecutive match in which she has scored over 20 points..

On the other side, Kiera van Ryk carried the offensive load with 22 points, but that was far from enough to help Canada secure any points.

The Thai girls are in excellent form during Week 2 of this year's VNL.

Thailand is making the most of their home-court advantage. In Week 2 of this year's VNL, the matches for coach Kiattipong's team are held at the "holy ground" Indoor Stadium Huamark. They suffered a narrow 2-3 loss to newcomers Ukraine, but then quickly rebounded with two consecutive wins over Bulgaria and Canada, thanks to the excellent orchestration of captain Pornpun Guedpard and the outstanding form of Sasipapron.

These impressive results have temporarily lifted Thailand to 13th place in the VNL 2026 standings, while also ensuring their position within the top 20 of the FIVB rankings. In fact, the number of wins the "Land of Smiles" team has achieved after two weeks of this year's VNL already exceeds their entire tally from the previous season.

In the final match of VNL 2026 Week 2, taking place at 8:30 PM on June 21 (Vietnam time), Pornpun and her teammates will face the Netherlands.
