Vietnam men's volleyball team officially surpasses Thailand by winning the SEA V.Cup

The delight of Federico Rampazzo's squad following the Stage 2 SEA V.Cup 2026 final was amplified by the good news from the newly updated world volleyball rankings.

The Vietnam men's volleyball team continues to receive complete joy after winning the 2026 SEA V.Cup stage championship when they officially surpassed Thailand in the FIVB Men's Volleyball World Rankings.

In the final of Stage 2 of the 2026 SEA V.Cup, held on the evening of July 26 (Hanoi time), the Vietnamese team staged an emotional comeback against Thailand after five intense sets, thereby, for the first time in history, becoming the champion of a stage in this top Southeast Asian tournament - formerly known as the SEA V.League.

Not only significant in terms of titles, this victory also created a turning point in the FIVB rankings. According to FIVB's scoring system, Vietnam gained 2.55 points for defeating a direct competitor in five sets, while Thailand lost the same number of points.

After the update, Vietnam has 73.58 points, moving up one spot to 58th in the world and pushing its archrival down to 59th. Currently, we are the second-best team in Southeast Asia, behind Indonesia (44th, 102.51 points).

This achievement is a well-deserved reward for the team's efforts throughout the tournament. Under the guidance of new head coach Federico Rampazzo, Vietnam displayed energetic play, resilient fighting spirit, and composure in decisive moments. The victory over Thailand in the final was especially meaningful, as the opponent has always been considered one of the strongest teams in the region.

Concluding the SEA V.Cup with a historic championship and a higher ranking than Thailand in the FIVB standings, the Vietnam men's volleyball team will quickly transition to preparations for the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, which will take place from the second half of September to early October.
